Laguna Esmeralda Sunrise

The experience begins very early to reach the lagoon at sunrise and enjoy the mountain practically in solitude. During the colder months of winter, the hike starts even at night, allowing you to observe the first lights of the day while crossing the landscapes of Tierra del Fuego. The trail begins after approximately 20 minutes of travel along Ruta Nacional 3, part of the Pan-American Highway. Along the way, you will cross: Fuegian forest. Wide valleys. Peat bogs. The Esmeralda River. Dams built by beavers. The entire route is surrounded by the Fuegian Andes and offers excellent views of the Sierra Alvear. After about 2 hours of hiking, you arrive at Laguna Esmeralda. Depending on the weather conditions and the time of year, the lagoon may be: Frozen. Covered in snow. Partially frozen. When the ice is safe enough, it is possible to walk on the frozen surface. The descent begins while most visitors are just starting the ascent, allowing you to enjoy the place with much greater tranquility.
