2-day / 1-night trek. If you thought you already knew Fitz Roy, there is still another of its most impressive perspectives waiting to be discovered.

Descripción

Paso del Cuadrado is a mountain trek leading to a natural viewpoint facing the northern side of the Fitz Roy massif. Unlike the traditional trails around El Chaltén, this route leaves the main trail network behind and ventures into a remote environment, crossing native forests, glacial moraines and landscapes shaped by ancient ice. It is an experience designed for those looking for a different kind of adventure, with very few visitors and views that are difficult to find anywhere else in Los Glaciares National Park. --- Who is this trek suitable for? This trek is recommended for people with very good physical fitness and previous experience in mountain trekking. The itinerary involves long hours of hiking, significant elevation gain and off-trail sections where maintaining a steady and safe pace is essential. --- Technical information Total distance: approximately 24 km Elevation gain: approximately 1,200 m Maximum elevation: approximately 1,650 m a.s.l. Physical difficulty: High Technical difficulty: Moderate to high, depending on terrain conditions Type: Guided trek with overnight camping Important!!! As this expedition takes place in a mountain environment, its operation is subject to weather conditions. For this reason, we recommend staying at least 4 full days in El Chaltén, allowing enough flexibility to choose the best weather window for the trek.

Itinerary

The excursion starts with a transfer to Puente del Río Eléctrico. From there, the route follows approximately two hours of trail through native forest until reaching Piedra del Fraile Refuge and Campground. From this point, the route begins a sustained ascent towards Piedra Negra, a historic base camp for climbers visiting the northern face of Fitz Roy. The camp is set up here, allowing time to enjoy an afternoon surrounded by glaciers and granite peaks.
